Today’s E28 535i isn’t just a good deal, it is also a European bumper equipped beauty. Find this 1988 BMW 535i E28
currently bidding on ebay for $6,600 with 2 days to go, located in New Fairfield, CT.
The common complaint about the US spec E28 is that the 5-mph bumpers look like diving boards, but this one has been outfitted with slim Euro bumpers and looks nice. Although the seller says he will include the original TRX wheels, the currently installed basket weave alloys look period correct and compliment the white paint nicely.
Under the hood is the M30B34 is a 3.4 liter inline-6 that makes 185 horsepower. The intake manifold on the 533i and 535i has 3.2/3.5 casting mark that is doubly ironic because of the 3.4 liter engine displacement, but also causes all sorts of confusion for buyers/sellers not in the know.
The interior of this E28 looks in decent shape even though it has a few signs of wear/tear and a modern stereo. The tall shifter is attached to a 5-speed manual gearbox and should be good for hours of entertainment as long as the bushings are replaced every 100k miles or so.
