5k DTween: 1948 Chevy Truck Ratrod Toyota Hilux Diesel Horrorod
It must be Christmas in Michigan because we just got a hot tip for a Horrorod from a reader and it is indeed a doozy – not a Duesenberg, but a doozy of a horrorod. This 1948 Chevy Truck Ratrod Pickup powered by a Toyota Hilux Diesel engine is for sale on ebay $5,500 buy-it-now in Christmas, MI (Thanks to tip from DT reader Andrew L).
The Horrorod is built on a Chevy truck chassis title and uses parts from a 1948 Chevy ‘body’, 1940 Ford (front Axle), 1981 Toyota Hilux (engine/trans). It has some sweet custom flames painted on the hood and has no roof.
The Horrorod is powered by a Toyota “L” 2.2 liter inline-4 cylinder diesel engine putting out 62 horsepower and 93 ft-lbs of torque mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. This diesel engine is a real masochists choice for hot-rod powerplant as it combines low power with heavy weight and questionable reliability and longevity.
The inside of this beast uses the Toyota Hilux cluster mounted on some rusty metal above plywood floors – and it needs some work. The new owner may want to consider adding a few throw pillows or something to make the interior a bit more luxurious.
It won’t be a comfortable place to be for long roadtrips and we can
assume that you will be able to get fairly far with the beer keg repurposed as a
fuel tank. It certainly is an ‘interesting’ car, but we think the seller is a bit optimistic with his current pricing.
