5k: Blows Clean And Cold: 1987 Toyota FJ60 w/ 5.7 Vortec V8 Swap

Preparing for the apocalypse couldn’t be any easier than stocking up on vitamins, toothpaste, toilet paper and picking up the latest Wasteland Wednesday offering from DT.  Wasteland Wednesday (for the newly initiated) is a series we run that includes vehicles ready for the Mad Max style apocalypse and features a wide array of vehicles from Swamp Hunting Plaforms to APCs.  Today we’ve got a 1987 Toyota FJ60 Land Cruiser with a GM Vortec V8 swap that blows clean on a smog test and cold air on its occupants for the bargain price of $6,000 via craigslist (located in Huntington Beach, CA)

The Toyota Land Crusher is one of those iconic off-road machines and was well known for its boulder climbing abilities as well as its ability to run for miles with only basic maintenance.  The FJ60 version was sold from 1980 to 1987 and was powered by the big fuel hungry truck-like carbureted 2F inline six, a 4.2L pushrod engine making only 135 hp…perfect candidate for a Gen III V8 swap…

At $6k asking price, this one is a screaming deal. It even has a manual trans, a 5-speed H55 as mentioned in the ad and all sorts of aftermarket lift kit pieces, big wheels, big tires, custom bumper, et cetera.  The two biggest surprises are the CARB sticker from a BAR referee inspection and the functioning AC!  Leather Volvo S-60 seats are a bit of an odd choice, but likely more comfortable than the stock seats.

There isn’t much more we can say about a GM V8 powered Land Cruiser other than…hurry…this should sell soon!
