5k: 1989 Toyota Corolla Wagon All-Trac 5spd

We’ve posted a few Corollas on the Daily Turismo – usually older rear wheel drive versions, but today we are going to venture a little bit into beige territory.  Toyota abandoned the performance buyer a long time ago in an attempt to attract more buyers with reliable and steadfast transportation.  It did a great job and only occasionally a fun-to-drive Toyota would leave the showrooms after about 1979.  This 1989 Toyota Corolla Wagon All-Trac SR5 is a bit of an oddity and we think qualifies as a Daily Turismo, so before you surf over to your favorite celebrity stalker site, take a look at what we think would be an interesting DT.

Yes…it is beige and yes it’s an economy box from Toyota..but first it’s a wagon, second, manual trans and third: All-Trac (Toyota speak for symmetrical all-wheel drive system with user selectable electronic locking center differential).  This car would have been built in Canada or at the now closed NUMMI plant in Fremont, CA, but it has lived for the past few years in Pennsylvania – also known as the land that all the rust that fled the west ended up building settlement in and it had many children...so check the underside carefully…

The Corolla All-Trac was only available in SR5 trim with a 1.6 liter 4A-FE inline 4 banger putting out 105 horsepower and 101 ft-lbs of torque, not a lot, but enough considering this little wagon only has 2400 lbs of steel and plastic to toss around.

The seller says that he recently purchased two of them for a bargain and its just looking to make a few bucks – an honest statement from an amateur car flipper…and hey – here is our seller now.  He looks like an ordinary dude, wearing a hat, green shirt, blue jeans – taking photos for ebay with his android based smart phone…he doesn’t look the type to eat people who show up to test drive a car…always a plus.

Bottom line: If you live somewhere it rains/snows and you need a good winter beater – we think you couldn’t go wrong with an old all-trac Corolla – we bet it does fantastic donuts in the snow and it’d probably be easy to clean the dogs puke out of the rear hatch area when you get to your destination.
