The Ford LTD (pronounced el-tee-dee) was first built in 1965 on the Galaxie platform as a top of the line for Ford’s full sized offerings. In 1979 the LTD was downsized to Ford’s Panther platform and in 1983 it was turned into a midsized thing on Ford’s Fox platform…which was a good thing for people who enjoyed a fun driving experience. The new rack-and-pinion steering, unibody construction, and drivetrain/suspension parts shared with the Mustang meant the LTD finally went from making its drivers sick to making its passengers sick. A 1985 Ford LTD LX in fair condition
Body panels have dents that do not show up well in photos. Worst dents are butt prints on the
roof. Interior is usable as a driver car. Worst parts are dash pad and console. Have two consoles
that can be combined for one repaired unit. Car has the original engine and transmission in
good shape and is mechanically sound. It will crank and drive well. It has a new fuel tank and
fuel pumps. Lines have been flushed out and there is a new filter. There is a new master
cylinder and a new proportioning valve installed. Calipers and rear brake cylinders have been
rebuilt. Car still has the original limited-slip rear end. Has a matched set of tires still good
enough to get you home anywhere in the country.
I really hate to sell this automobile but after a lifetime of restoring cars and at the age of 77
Post-Covid what used to be fun is now just hard work. These cars are very rare and most now
no longer exist. It is a good car for someone who will appreciate its unique value. One of its
most interesting features is its high performance (for its time) 302 V8 engine not normally found
in a fox-body sedan.
