The Jetta is a small family sedan from Volkswagen, basically a large version of the Golf as it shares most major suspension/engine/interior components with the little hatchback. In the cheap/used market the Jetta gets lost in the shuffle between the small/cute Golf/GTi and the larger and cooler Passat with W8 engines and all-wheel-drive…except that the Jetta was first to get turbo diesel injected power for the US market. Find this 2001 Volkswagen Jetta TDI for sale in North Kingstown, RI for $3,500 via craigslist. Seller submission from Art.
The TDI is powered by a 1.9 liter direct injected turbocharged diesel engine that makes 90 horsepower and 155 ft-lbs of torque. The little engine (mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox) is able to last decades and this one with 287k miles on the clock is just getting broken in.
