2WD 5-Speed Inline-6: 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ

This next car isn’t the most well optioned thing you’ll ever find in the wild, it doesn’t have all-wheel-drive, or have the big 4.0 liter inline-6 or a Chief package or Pioneer Olympic Edition or Laredo…you get the picture. This is base and basic…but I like it. Find this 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ offered for $4,500 in San Mateo, CA via craigslist.

From the seller:

Hello everyone,We’re selling our 2000 jeep Cherokee its 2WD, it has a 6 cylinder engine with a 5spd manual transmission, we’ve recently replaced the clutch, also has a tune up done, with new valve cover gasket. Has only 156K miles
Overall it runs very well no issues mechanically, cosmetically it’s pretty clean no major dents no fading paint, interior is pretty clean no rips or stains headliner is sagging.
It’s a clear title asking $4500

I think there was only the 2.5L 4 cylinder and the 4.0L 6 cylinder for this year. So this has the good engine, a manual, and only missing 4WD. Though as my dad said, 4WD is only good for getting you further and stuck harder….
lol.. true. Many don’t believe this, but one time I took a 2WD F150 with all-terrain tires down the same trails and through the same mud while following my brother in his 4WD tacoma.
Thats the 2.5l 4 cyl. Few things: 1. it has one fan shroud, the 4.0 has two. 2. The 4.0l engines had breathers at the front/top and rear of the valve cover, 2.5l only at the rear as this one does. 3. the engine in this picture is much shorter than the 4.0l, and unless its a really cold day, this is indicative of the smaller engine. FYI, at the top in the description is a link to Craigslist where the car was offered for sale. This site doesn’t sell the cars so much as links to cars that are for sale we think are worth talking about. This one was on CL in October 2021 and the ad has expired.
BTW, got my calendar, y’all have some sweet rides. I’ll send pics of mine in, but you probably don’t want to put a pic of a Miata on jack stands in a cluttered garage up or my well worn JKU for that matter, one day the Miata might be calendar ready.
