Rad From The 90s: 1996 Toyota RAV4

The first generation Toyota RAV4 was built for the 1995 through 2000 model years on a platform that borrowed parts from the Toyota Carina and Corolla. Toyota continues to sell RAV4s today, but the first generation was the only platform to offer a cool looking 2-door version that you see here today. The seller is offering two different RAV4s, first is a red 1996 Toyota RAV4 offered for $9700 and the second is a green 1996 Toyota RAV4 offered for $5500 via craigslist.

The Toyota RAV4 was first launched in the US in 1996. Ever since, it has been one of Toyota’s most popular models. However, only the first generation was made in the unique and now very sought-after 2 door models. I’ve collected several of those over the years and they are still my favorite daily drivers. They’re practically mini 4runners/Land Cruisers!

I present to you two super rare and clean examples:

  1. A ’96 in red color. This one is the rarest one you will ever find. What makes it rare is the following 5 combinations:

• All wheel drive (90% were made in 2 wheel drive)
• 5 speed manual (a lot were made in automatic)
• Electronic locking differential with a button on the dash.
• Power locks and windows (2 doors were stripped down from most options)
• Not one, but TWO sunroofs! And yes, they’re both completely removable!!!

And the red color is just the cherry on top, I think its the coolest color on the coupe models. 201k miles and runs perfectly. About $3500 worth of recent maintenance are up to date, including new clutch, suspension, brakes, and even a timing belt has been done recently. It will also come with an aftermarket stereo and the factory OEM toyota roof racks! This is an absolutely turn key vehicle. This one is located in my property in Oregon, but will include shipping to anywhere along the west coast for free. $9700

  1. Also a ’96 5 speed! FWD, 280k miles, sunroof. Drives perfectly. Great tires, brakes, paint is decent but has the usual sun kissed spots. A/C and heat work, as a matter of fact, everything works! Previous owner was an elderly gentleman and kept this vehicle for a couple of decades. Ideal for a behind an RV tow vehicle! I have a massive folder full of maintenance records going back 16 years at least. Located in San Diego. $5500
