Normally I’d complain about a car listing that only has one photo of the car and scant details about what could be and is wrong with the car…but you can’t complain when the asking price is freeeeee. You’ve just got to get a U-Haul tow dolly attached to your wife’s minivan and go get this […]
There is a mental hospital in Atascadero. I know this because I made the mistake of staying at a Motel-6 in that town on the way through the Central Coast one time. What I didn’t know beforehand was that the Atascadero State Hospital is the largest employer in the town of Atascadero and is a […]
This next car comes as a tip from Matt V who writes: Early Jeep Cherokee, manual, stylized name graphic, red interior. will probably be sold by the morning. It isn’t a bad looking example of a mid 80s Cherokee and the interior looks Elmotastic. Find this 1986 Jeep Cherokee Chief offered for $5900 in Santa […]
This next car isn’t the most well optioned thing you’ll ever find in the wild, it doesn’t have all-wheel-drive, or have the big 4.0 liter inline-6 or a Chief package or Pioneer Olympic Edition or Laredo…you get the picture. This is base and basic…but I like it. Find this 2000 Jeep Cherokee XJ offered for […]
This next Jeep Cherokee Pioneer is from the early years of the XJ generation of the unibody Jeep Cherokee and it looks surprisingly well cared for. Unfortunately the seller of this XJ reports that it won’t pass smog, it needs a timing belt, and the check-engine-light is flickering. Also known as flashing — as in, something is wrong NOW. An OBDII scan tool is worthless with this ancient thing, but there is certainly a way to get the engine controller to give up its launch codes, usually involving mashing the gas pedal in a certain way on startup…I don’t know Jeep CEL diagnosis and am too lazy to duckduckgo it. But this thing is in WAY too good condition to be turned into the California smog authorities for whatever they pay for scrap junkers these days and it needs somebody to rescue it. Find this 1986 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer XJ offered for $3800 in San Francisco, CA via craigslist.
The XJ (1983-2001) was all of AMC’s engineering might shoved into a lifted family wagon shape. Jeep sold 3 million of these things during their two decade production run, so you have plenty to choose from, but the one you want is going to be equipped with a 4.0 liter AMC inline-6 and isn’t rusting from the bottom. Today’s example is fortunate enough to be equipped with that sweet inline-6 and a manual gearbox, plus it has the Chief trim, which means you get to enjoy the plaid-pattern cloth interior upholstery and none of the silly chrome of the higher level trims. Find this 1987 Jeep Cherokee Chief XJ offered for $6,800 in Roseville, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!
To the average person muddling through life like a canoer with a golf club for a paddle, an XJ Cherokee Sport is just another old junker. But to people who have their act together, like those with a Yamaha VMAX hooked their canoe, they smile when they see an XJ Sport. The list of small 4-door pickup trucks isn’t very large — a fact pointed out by the builder of this custom machine, who writes: I built this because I have always felt that the US manufacturers totally missed the boat on the mid-size 4-door pickup market. They built some – but they were all weird-shaped, weird-looking, […]
In 1984 the XJ generation of the Jeep Cherokee was released into the public, but it used a modern unibody monocoque instead of the traditional body-on-frame setup of the previous Jeepy things. This meant it was lighter and less clunky to drive around town than previous huge Jeep monsters, but still off road capable because […]
To the average guy walking down the street, they probably won’t take a second glance at a 20 year old Jeep Cherokee, but to a certain subset of the population, this next feature is the bee’s knees. Personally, I’m ambivalent and would probably get a 4Runner if I needed a 4X4 SUV…but, why drive boring […]
