2JZ Swap: 1987 Toyota Pickup

The classic 80’s Toyota Pickup is one of those cars you usually see covered in ladders or lawn equipment, because it is a workhorse.  It may be slow and ugly, but it is reliable, rugged, and the choice of vehicle for impromptu militias around the globe.  However, it is a light vehicle in stock configuration and could be monstrously fast if you figure out a way to make power and get traction.  Find this 1987 Toyota Pickup here on eBay bidding for $6,100 reserve-not-met with 2 days to go, located in Miami, FL.

You aren’t going to win any awards for sleeper of the year with a front mount intercooler the size of a baby’s crib sticking proud of the front bumper…but sleepers are overrated, because most of the time you drive slowly around on city streets, so you might as well have a car that everyone else thinks is fast.

Pop the hood and every boy-racer in the Miami area is going to say things like “daeeeaaAAAmm dog” and slap you on the back, because 2JZ.  The 2JZ-GTE was original equipment in the RZ generation Toyota Supra (also in JDM Toyota Aristo) where it produced something like 320 horsepower when equipped with the original sequential twin-turbo setup…BUT, if you want to REALLY school the kids running VTEC in their Hondas, you are going to want to bolt up some huge truck turbo and turn up the boost…which is what you see here.

This 2JZ is backed up by a TH400 transmission that has been built for ripping up the dragstrip, which this thing does in a few videos.  The seller says it runs something in the 6 seconds for the 1/8th mile, which means that it should do 10s in the 1/4.  Not bad for a crummy compact pickup.
