Coffee Brake: Coronado, Where the Rubber Meets the Rudder
The middle of an active Navy base might seem like the worst place to drive a car with 800 horsepower in an angry pack of other like minded lunatics, but that is exactly what has happened every September since 1997. This weekend, Sept 17, 18 is the 2016 Coronado Speed Festival, hosted by the SVRA, and run on the North Island Navy base as part of the Fleet Week celebrations.
The Speed Fest is a low key affair without the pomp and circumstance of the Monterey Historics by Rolex (or whatever they call it these days) but with all the same screaming Trans-Am V8s, Formula 1 cars from every era, and terrifying pre-war death-traps. If you live in the Southern California area, consider a trip to the deep heart of San Diego this weekend for some wheel-to-wheel vintage racing. Previous DT coverage of the event can be found here.
If you are going to be at the event on Saturday, send me an e-mail at vince@dailyturismo.com and you can meet DT Radio Show producer Ben and DT E-i-C Vince.
I'm going to be at the Seattle round of the Global Rally Cross tomorrow out in beautiful Monroe. Drop me a line at gianni-at-dailyturismo-dot-com if you are going to be there and you can meet Yr. Faithful Taco Tuesday Svnt.
