20k: You Had Me At Clownshoe: 2006 BMW Z4 M Coupe

Tipper Andy L writes to us:  Here is a beautiful car that I must admit I have not seen in the wild before.  We have all caught glimpses of the “clown-shoe” M coupe around and you can find them on
E-bay rather consistently.  It is was a polarizing design that some can’t really handle.  Here is the later version of that car and it looks to have a more universal appeal.  Like the uber-rare Pontiac Solstice
Coupe, this configuration wears its hard top at least as well as its drop-top sibling wears the canvas.  Must be a real hoot with the M engine, too.
Find this 2006 BMW Z4 M Coupe here on eBay currently bidding for $7,100 reserve-not-met with $24,125 buy-it-now and 3 days to go located in Grand Forks, ND.

You shouldn’t blame Andy for never seeing a clown shoe E86 M-Coupe (2006-2008) in the wild because production for North America was limited to 1815.  Consider the fact* that 1/2 of all BMWs are located in the greater Los Angeles basin, you now have have 900 for the rest of the USA, Canada & Mexico. Odds are you’ll encounter a Yeti riding a Hayabusa before you find a Z4 M-Coupe if you aren’t in a major rich kid mecca like LA.

Under the hood is the fantastic screaming S54 inline-6, that revs to 8000 rpm and punches out a respectable 330 horsepower while making the sound like a thousand scarab beetles being pushed through a gutter downspout.  Power is very linear and the chassis is extremely happy to be tossed through the turns.

With 71k miles on the odometer, the interior on this one is very well preserved. Most BMW interiors that are 10 years old show all sorts of signs of leather distress and steering wheel wear – but this one looks great.  The 6-speed manual gearbox is the gearbox of choice, because the 6-speed SMG is balky unless you are running at 10/10ths on a track.
