15k: Pop Up: 1986 Porsche 928S

The Porsche 928 was a luxury cruiser built for autobahn cruising and light corner carving.  It won’t thrill you at the apex like a 911, but for the price, a 928 is the best Camaro ever built in Germany.  Find this 1986 Porsche 928S offered here on eBay, currently bidding for $12,500 reserve-not-met with 4 days to go.

The Porsche 928 was a technological tour-de-force when it debuted in
1978, but the US didn’t get a fast version until 1985 when the twin-cam
engine was put in the cars destined for North America.  The sleek in the front and bulbous in the rear shape saw minor changes, but was mostly the same as the car that launched in 1978.

The 5.0 liter V8 is fitted with dual overhead cams and 4 valves per cylinder.  Power for the North American 1986 version is rated at 292 horsepower (versus 234 for the 1984) and the difference is instantly felt by anyone inside the vehicle.

The 928 interior shares some cues with a contemporary 911, but the driver centric wrap-around cockpit is much cooler than the 911 in this writer’s opinion.  It is difficult to understand the condition of this interior, a dash mat cover potential dashboard problem areas.
