10k: Dog Leg: 1987 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16V 5-spd W201

The Mercedes-Benz W201 190E spawned a unique motorsports inspired version, the 2.3-16V Cosworth edition that featured a unique body kit, tuned M102 engine and dog-leg pattern 5-speed gearbox.  It was a legitimate competitor to the BMW E30 M3 and Audi Quattro, but today isn’t particularly pricey for whatever reason.  Find this 1987 Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.3-16V 5-spd W201 for sale in New York, NY currently bidding on ebay for $4,999 reserve-not-met (and $14,500 BIN) with 4 days to go.

The 2.3-16V is powered by an M102 2.3 liter inline-4 cylinder engine capped with a Cosworth engineered DOHC cylinder head good for 185 horsepower and 174 ft-lbs of torque.  The Getrag dog-leg gearbox features an offset first gear and gears 2-3 and 4-5 live front to rear for a supposedly better setup for racing…not that anyone was going to take a new 190E to a track competition.  We don’t often see 190E 2.3-16V cars for sale, so it is hard to judge the market, but this one probably won’t reach the buy-it-now price and we’d expect it to sell realistically for something less than $10k.
