Precious few details are provided from the seller of this “has not bee run for about 10 years” GTI. It is safe to assume that it isn’t the more desirable 16V GTI and is powered by a 1.8 liter inline-4 8V engine putting out 110 horsepower into a 5 speed manual gearbox.

This is a first generation (MK I) GTI, not a 2nd generation as you list it. If it is a U.S. market car then it had 90hp when new, not 110. Also, the Mk I was never available with the 16 valve motor. 8 valve only for this one.
A good investment? Only if it stays in the dry of NM.
Too bad you skipped the banter part, since that would have involved informing your readers that this specimen is a US built GTI and they were decidedly inferior to the German built GTIs in many ways.
