What Am I? Nicolas Gauge Edition
Welcome to another edition of DT’s cure for the Monday morning blues — What Am I? In this better than getting scabies game we find a random picture of a car from a interweb advertisement and you get to guess what kind of car it came from. Just what am I anyway? Update with answer below.
Last week’s Lotus Esprit rear trunk/storage space was identified by reader jlenham in a few hours, but this one will be easier for some, harder for others. Guess away in the comments below.
Update: It only took DT reader RyanM a few minutes to recognize the gauge cluster on this 1985 Mazda RX7 GS FB-generation currently bidding on ebay for a $5,549 with a few hours to go.
This one looks like a really nice example of a first generation RX-7 offered in an interesting shade of L6 ocean blue metallic. It looks like a winner with a crack free dash and the original 1.1 liter 12A rotary engine spinning out 101 horsepower with just a hair over 100k miles on the clock.

Nissan SE-R B13
1984-85 RX7 GSL SE.
Correct…nice job.
It's been over 20 years but I'll never forget my '85 RX7
That was my guess. If not, it'd have been an '87 Supra.
88 Honda CRX si
Wow, this game really is better than getting scabies. I'm going to guess Porsche 924.
this is very similar to my 84 & 87 Audi 5000's I have.
So I think it's a type 44 Audi instrument cluster (yeah really a cluster!) of a different year. Guessing an early Audi 200.
I owned both a Gen 2 CRX si AND an 85 Mazda GSL-SE. Ryan nailed it! Zoom Zoom…..
2014 Lamborghini Aventador. They like that retro-cool look (or so I've heard)
lol
YUP! looks exactly like the one above. media.caranddriver.com/images/11q4/431546/2012-lamborghini-aventador-lp700-4-instrument-cluster-photo-431712-s-1280×782.jpg
agree with ryan, RX7.
An Aventador with a 140 MPH top speed? um, no.
A DT reader without a sense of humor? um, no.
Well I would say I was close, but I wasn't 100% on the money. The one pictured is a GS not the GSL SE I mentioned. Close apparently counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, and DT's "What Am I?"
Anyways, back to trying to figure out what vital piece of knowledge minutiae like this has booted from my long-term memory.
Anniversary? Wife's birthday? SSN? Your own blood type?
I can only remember 3 of the above 4 at any given time. There is a neverending cog-sci version of musical chairs going on in my head.
11 AUG, 2 NOV, last two are on my [Army] ID tags so I kinda cheated there. No… it has to be something more important.
Now where the hell did I put my keys…
Webley-Vickers 50/80 Thurber model…..did very well in Tourist Trophy….
