W123 Turbo Diesel Coupe: 1984 Mercedes-Benz 300CD

The W123 chassis Mercedes-Benz platform was used from 1976 through 1986 to build a staggering 2.7 million cars in 4-door, wagon, coupe, and limo configuration. I’ve driven a few diesel powered versions of these over the years and have fond memories of trying to gather speed between hills, but today’s “sporty” coupe version has the big 3 liter inline-5 and a turbocharger. The turbo version of the W123 isn’t fast, but it will cut the original 240D’s 0-60mph time in half, so it could be worse. Find this 1984 Mercedes-Benz 300CD offered for $8750 in Los Angeles, CA via craigslist.

So are the seat ponchos there because beach heated MB Tex is unpleasant applied to unclothed skin, or because some unimaginable chain of events lead to molten aluminum being poured over the seats? I mean MB Tex stands up to hauling pet goats, bricks, and motorcycles on the seats.
Like the black steel wheels.
Weren’t these a lot cheaper pretty recently?
To quote Frank Zappa- Is that a real poncho or is it a seat poncho?
interesting to see a pillarless coupe or hardtop from the era when shoulder harness restraints were required. the little mount points for the high belt do slightly muddy the window beltline, but overall serve th purpose and allow that breezy open cabin feeling with windows rolled down. my 1st car was a 20 y.o. 63 4d galaxie hardtop. from the time that lap belts were an option. nothing with shoulder restraint in the Detroit option lists.
You dont see many coupes this clean. I love the baja look 🙂
