V8 With Puffer: 1975 Triumph Spitfire

This next Triumph Spitfire has clearly been hitting the gym—and the paint booth—because this isn’t your typical tea-sipping British roadster. No, this little road lizard has been injected with some Freedom muscle, boasting a full-blown V8 swap under that vented hood and a 5-speed manual to keep things entertaining. The seller claims it’ll do 28 MPG on a 550-mile trip, which sounds suspiciously optimistic unless “MPG” stands for Miles Per Grin. The Chrome Illusion paint shifts colors like a mood ring at a car show, and the tan interior looks straight out of a boutique cigar lounge. After 49 years with its current owner, this Spitfire is reportedly rust-free, daily-drivable, and far too refined for its British Leyland roots. It’s less “quaint classic” and more “Triumph meets Hot Wheels fever dream”—and honestly, we’re here for it. Find this 1975 Triumph Spitfire offered for $15,790 in Long Beach, NY via facepaint blastbook. Tip from Cory.

I’ve owned this Spitfire for 49 years, (I’m the second owner). You will not find a cleaner rust-free Spitfire. It is a daily driver, (recently driven on a 550-mile trip getting 28MPG). Equipped with a V8 engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. Heat Mitigation Technology keeps the cockpit cool. The Chrome Illusion paint makes the car standout, strangers and by standards who are not car buffs will marvel and ask questions. The steel hardtop can be removed with six bolts. The modifications are too many to list.

The seller has owned the car for 49 years, yet he calls it a Jaguar Spitfire in the ad! Also not seeing any signs of forced induction.
That’s just FB Marketplace; if you select car/truck as the vehicle type, it only offers current makes to choose from. The only way to enter an obscure/obsolete make is if you select Other as the vehicle type, but most sellers don’t know that, so they wind up having to fudge the make with the limited choices available.
I wonder what the rear suspension and rear axle mods are to cope with that lot? Lift off oversteer was bad enough with my old unmodified Spit.
The word puffer reminds me of Paul Newman trying to get David Letterman to buy a Volvo that had a Chev V-8 installed. Newman said he should get a puffer like his V-8 Volvo for extra power. “It will chew anyone’s @ss up to 90 mph”
