The WhutMobile: 1987 Jeep Cherokee

There is a mental hospital in Atascadero. I know this because I made the mistake of staying at a Motel-6 in that town on the way through the Central Coast one time. What I didn’t know beforehand was that the Atascadero State Hospital is the largest employer in the town of Atascadero and is a “supermax” psychiatric institution for those committed by the state of California. My suspicion is that the Motel 6 was being used as a halfway house by the Hospital which is, obviously, important for getting folks rehabilitated, but somewhat inconvenient if you just want a quiet place to stay with your family in scenic Middle California. I don’t plan to stop again in Atascadero, unless I wanted to buy a car that uses free-with-coupon Harbor freight multimeters for instrumentation and requires a “map” to explain the interior. Find this 1987 Jeep Cherokee offered for $1400 in the town of Atascadero, CA via craigslist.

From the seller:

1987 Jeep Cherokee
fuel: gas
odometer: 200000
title status: clean
transmission: manual

Start it, drive it, and don’t stop until you have warmed it up. 750 pounds of weight have been removed and it supposedly gets 24mpg FREEWAY. I did not do the work. I have drawn a map to explain the interior. Everything in the vehicle is included. Spent $1800 tagged and smogged for DEC ‘22
