Super Bugaboo: 1973 Volkswagen Beetle Camper

The Super Bugger is one of the strangest and most delightful byproducts of 1970s RV culture—a Beetle-based motorhome mashup that somehow works despite every law of proportion, practicality, and good taste. This custom thing is finished in eye-searing purple with custom paint and powered by a 1.6L flat-four paired to a 4-speed manual. Inside, it’s peak retro 70s glory: shag carpeting, faux wood paneling, a stove, sink, ice box, dinette-to-bed setup, and more cabinetry than most Manhattan apartments. Whether you call it a Super Bugger, Lil’ Bugger, MiniHome, or Bugaboo, one thing’s for sure—it gets attention everywhere it goes and might be the only RV that fits in a compact parking spot.
