Straight-6 Slushbox: 1963 Ford Falcon Convertible
I’m gonna put my flame suit on and say the following: the V8 and 4-speed is overrated. Every other classic ’60s American car that I see running around car shows is powered by a thumping V8 and many have the lauded 4-speed manual. Oooohh…ahhh…pssshaa, meh! Those hot rod upgraded powertrain combos are great if you plan to go vintage racing or like to head to the drag strip, but most classic cars are just putted around town by old guys, so why not get something that’ll get good fuel economy and isn’t as common as pimples on a teenager. Like a straight-6 mated to a..errr..2 or 3…let’s just say several speed slushbox. Find this 1963 Ford Falcon Convertible offered for $15000 in Port Orchard, WA via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

I am selling my 1963 Falcon convertible for $15,000. It is an automatic with the 170 six cylinder engine. It runs great. The interior upholstery was completely redone in 2015 so it looks real good. You can for an appt. to look and/or drive.

Hooray for the straight six!
If one wanted to hop this up there is a Australian crossflow aluminum head that bolts right on.
Or you could swap in the Australian DOHC version.
Don't know if the 300 would fit, it's tank like durability is matched by it's tank like weight.
I love the looks of these and everything that you can do to improve a first gen mustang you can do to these.
This particular one is too nice to mess with though
I once saw a later '60s Falcon fitted with a 300 at the dragstrip – and a set of three Weber DCOEs. Definitely not a normal engine setup!
Given how nice this one is, I'd probably leave it as is – and that's from the owner of a turbocharged and injected slant six Dart. If the car were in need of a lot more work anyway, that might be a different story.

Always hated the sound of the exhaust on Ford 6 (144-200) like farting in a tin can that was plugged up, Do like the 63 Falcon very hard to find correct trim items as not the same as 61,62. Still like the more square 64,65 model with a hipo 289 and a 4 speed…..SWEET….
