She Got the Mercedes Benz: 1972 MG Modified

I’d recognize a W108 front grille anywhere in the world…but I am equally impressed and gobsmacked to find a W108 grille on the front of a custom MG thing. Moving toward the rear of the car and I don’t see many MG related things, it’s got a small-block Chevy V8, triple wipers, and Lotus Seven style exposed front suspension and fenders. I like it. Find this 1972 MG Modified offered for $7000 in Spring Hill, FL via facemorris garageplace. Tip from Dave in Tampa.

So many questions and there are no pictures of the engine compartment, interior or underbody. This must be an MGB or Midget which are unibody, so are the wheels pushed out or is the body somehow narrowed? Maybe the front sheet metal is from a TD, but that would need to be widened. Overall design looks pretty good with the possible exception of a slightly long looking hood.
Mosdef a Midget, which are already pretty tiny and narrow — my Dad called them a “body bag on wheels” — so stuffing a SBC into one is pretty alarming in itself.
Pretty sure they just extended the wheelbase from the cowl to the front end, which prolly isn’t that big a deal since the Midget was derived from the Austin-Healey Sprite with its one-piece clamshell nose covering a fairly primitive stub structure in front:

The triple wipers and short doors shouts Midget to me but the rest of it makes me dizzy. I do think incorporating the MB grill was a stroke of whimsical genius, so there’s that. I asked the guy “why no money shots of the engine” and he said a friend posted it for him as he “didn’t know how to”. Hmmmm.
I often feel a vast divide separating me as a Gen-X from the generation that preceded me.
