Rusty RoadTripper: 1966 Volvo 122S Amazon
It was a long week, and now you’ve got plans to drive north across the Golden Gate Bridge and get outta town. What do you drive? A classic 911…nah, too expensive. A Volkswagen Van…too hipster. A classic Mustang…too common. How about a 1966 Volvo 122S Amazon offered for $3999 in Burlingame, CA via Craigslist.
This isn’t a perfect museum piece 122S that will get you awards at the next Concours d’Onepercenter in Palo Alto — quite the opposite, in fact. It is a brawler, a street fighter that will look just as good cruising down the 880 in Oakland or double parked in front of Heinold’s First and Last Chance Saloon.
Under the hood is a B18 inline-4 that is attached to an M40 manual gearbox and is claimed to run/drive great.

Clearly the definition of "rusty" varies from location to location. This looks pretty clean to a "Rust Belter". Did 122s all have that wrapped exhaust manifold?
Oh yah, that's definitely stock exhaust wrap from Gothenberg. And stock 1/2" copper piping behind the stock carburettor.
Either paint the whole thing rust (problem solved!), or (my preference), hire a decorative painter to add patina and age.
Make it LOOK 100 years old. Steampunk Chic.
-Stan (who has no desire to date Steampunk Chics… I'm married, you savages…).
I really like the look of these, can anyone talk to how they drive? Seems like a car that's only going to go up in value at this point.
