Reatta de Rouge: 1989 Buick Reatta

Most of the junk you can find at the Buick dealer today is rebadged GM fleet cars or something assembled in China, but there was a time when GM’s Buick division engineered and released their own piece of advanced technology — and I’m not talking about the 1960s. It was in ’88– a hand-built two seater with 4-corner independent suspension, a fuel injected Buick V6 and an advanced touchscreen computer interface known as the Reatta. It is probably the single biggest reason that nobody at Buick gets to design or develop cars anymore, but that is a story for another time. Find this 1989 Buick Reatta offered for $6,500 in St Petersburg, FL via craigslist. Tip from David in Tampa.

These always remind me of the Mazda Cosmo series I and II, and the looks have aged well.
Aren’t the engines in these supposed to last forever?
Yeah, a friend of mine bought one new, and I think the only option was the 3.8 V6.
the 3.8 v6 is a long produced model from GM. had a 3800 series II in the only GM car i ever owned. 96 regal. that engine was the very best thing about that car. those series II are the ones that gave this 3800 designation their well deserved reputation. this reatta has an earlier engine design, also likely quite good.
These are getting better looking with age.
Strange to think there was a time when I didn’t find these to be stunning. I grew up with a strong bias for Hondas and a withering dislike for most everything American thanks to my malaise era childhood. It feels like I’m clearly seeing these for the first time.
