Old School Volts: 1965 Invader Electric

This is an Invader GT kit car that has been converted to battery-electric power, in what can be described as an oddball combination of fiberglass ’70s kit-car styling and first-generation EV hardware. The low nose, gullwing door, and mid-engine proportions vaguely suggest a Ferrari Dino or racing prototype, but the Invader is very much its own period fiberglass fantasy. The louvers are a nice finishing touch. Find this 1965 Invader Electric offered for $4750 in San Jose, CA via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

The electric INVADER was build as a Ferrari replica. The body is made of fiberglass, and it’s powered by a Warp 9 NetGain electric motor, a Curtis 1231C controller, and twelve deep-cycle 12V batteries (which currently need replacement). For improved performance and range, I recommend upgrading to Nissan Leaf batteries or other lithium-ion packs.
The entire body is made of fiberglass, which is light weight, durable and non-rusted. The car previously reached speeds of up to 50 mph and had a range of approximately 45 miles per charge. It is street legal and fully registered with the California DMV.There is some damage to the rear body, which can be repaired with fiberglass.

Ford Maverick tail lights?
Or Pinto, pretty sure they had identical taillights.
Too far away for me, but for that kind of money, would make a darn fun grocery getter. Use it for a year then sell it to a retirement community in Florida. (OK, Florida is too far away also, but just saying…)
