Needs Engine: 1962 Fiat 600

Introduced in 1955, the Fiat 600 was Italy’s answer to a nation starved for wheels and desperate for affordable motoring. Rear-engined like a Porsche (if you squint), but priced for the masses, this little hatchling was offered in coupe and Multipla variants, the latter being a kind of proto-minivan that looked like a microbus mated with a Vespa. It wasn’t fast, it wasn’t fancy, but it was functional—and it had more personality than a whole fleet of modern crossovers. Today’s 600 is missing an engine, but I think it deserves a second look. Gee, I bet a water cooled BMW R1200GS engine would fit in there. 125 horsepower, what could go wrong?
Actually I’ve been keeping an eye on out for an 2cv sans motor with that in mind.
I was thinking build a gasser with a 392 Hemi or maybe a Buick Nailhead.
Hey Hugh, I know a guy 10 miles east of Sacramento shedding his life’s collection, including 2CV, Panhards and a couple of Jowett Jupiters.
Aaaaand the gauntlet has been thrown down. The odyssey that Hugh is about to embark on will make for great reading if he can score a guest slot at The Autopian.
Oh my!
Sounds very intriguing.
