The Ford Contour was a rebadged (and ‘Muricanized) US market version of the European Ford Mondeo — which people with funny accents claim was one of the greatest cars ever built. But Europe didn’t get the truly horrible American mass market Pintos and Vegas, so they didn’t flock to the reliable Japanese cars in the 1990s in the same way Americans did. So, yes, the Mondeo might have been better than most of the cheap mass produced USA stuff, but that’s sort of like saying it is better to be bitten by a racoon instead of a coyote. Anyway, the Ford Contour and Mercury Mystique were built in the USA using a shared platform with the Mondeo and sold from 1995-2000 and then immediately recycled into tin cans, because I haven’t seen one in the wild in decades.
