Loony Labor Day: 1947 Buick Roadmaster

We continue our celebration of lunacy with this next Loony Labor Day piece of automotive art….and boy does it have a big grin. Not every Buick afficianado is going to appreciate a four (?) porthole Buick with an insane set of customizations — every single opening is backwards, scissored or funkified. Overall the package is surprisingly well executed, but to really appreciate it you’ll need to be a big Clemson fan or totally color blind. Find this 1947 Buick Roadmaster bidding for $38,300 with 1 day to go (reserve-not-met) located in Palm Coast, FL via ebay.

From the seller;

1947 Buick Roadmaster – this Buick was customized in early 1990. It took about 2.5 years to build by Larry Kramer who also built some of the nicest award winning custom chopped cars. This was one of Larry’s last major custom builds. The car is chopped, channeled and sectioned. It has a 468 big block chevy engine and 400 turbo transmission with a ford 9″ rear end with 290 gears. This car was built to drive and I have driven it on many 2,000 mile round trips from KY to FL and back. Since this car was built over 30 years ago it’s starting to show some wear but still wins almost every car show it’s entered into. Outside of about 6 years when my father sold the car, this car has been in our family for almost 30 years. There’s more info about the car is listed in the pictures.

My comment about wear and tear is based on the build being over 30 years old and the car has been driven a lot. The miles are approximate because the Dakota Digital gauge cluster does not have a mileage reading. The paint still looks really good, but there are some rock chips and some minor cracks in the paint. The interior does not have any rips or tears, but being a white interior after 30 years old it just shows some wear. The wiring in the car is also 30 plus years old so the car probably needs updated wiring. Everything seems to work, but the AC probably needs to be charged. The tail lights have been updated to 59 Cadillac LED lights and the air cleaner is just a regular chrome air cleaner. Other than those two things, not much has really been updated in the car since the build.
