I fixed the title for you: “Long leap of faith off the eventual and certain cliff” 🙂
Speaking of cliffs…I blew up our ’73 XJ6 on the 405 south of LA in 1980….never mind the Lucas electrics…….. its the head gasket stupid! ..BUT THE quietest car to ride in I have ever had. A PPI at a competent Jag shop and some dickering on the price AND being on the West Coast I’d take a look. Then I’d source some ’73 and earlier chrome bumpers….get rid of those rubber baby bumpers
