1949 Fordish: 1988 Mercury Sable Wagon

My dear friend Hunsbloger was a giant fan of the 80s/90s Mercury Sable cars when he needed a cheap daily driver a few years ago. Huns would talk for hours about how the Sable was a cheaper version of the already cheap Ford Taurus and that nobody wanted them because they were ugly, but they weren’t that bad looking…I probably spent more time talking to him about Sables than I would care to admit, but this next Mercury Mutant is one he would have had mixed feelings about. Find this 1988 Mercury Sable Wagon offered for $15,500 in Tucson, AZ via craigslist. Tip from ME.

Front and rear off of a 1949 Ford on a 1988 Mercury Sable. Has 3.8 Mercury motor and automatic tranny, runs great, gets lots of attention.Seats and dash needs re-done. This is a totally rust free California car. If I re do the seats and dash, the price will go up. Possible trade

See a better way to drive something that looks old, and drives like it’s old too? tips@dailyturismo.com
Looks like a nice ride, until the bondo around the taillights starts to rust through. I wonder if the tailgate still opens, with those big bumper overriders installed…
Heck of an improvement if you ask me. 🙂
I should have bought HB’s ’65 wagon when I had the chance….I was raised in one:) Just wasnt the right time. Still kickin myself.Hope its running and you’re enjoying it. A lovely color and really pulled at my memory strings.
As for the Sable wagon , my crazy mother had one and that’s all the reason I need to stay away from it 🙂
