Like A Heavyweight M100 Elan: 1987 Cadillac Allanté
The Cadillac Allante (Allanté) was another attempt by one of the big three cash in on the allure of the European import; think Chrysler TC by Maserati or AMC Eagle Premier — but with an accent in the name causing grief for search features and web indexing in the future. I also can’t help but draw comparisons to the ’90s Lotus Elan — also a two-seat front-drive convertible with an engine built in a different continent from the body, but the Allante packed an extra 1600 lbs (approx the mass of a full Regardless, this next version is offered for some spare change…but would it be worth it? 1987 CADILLAC ALLANTE – CONVERTIBLE
I purchased this classic convertible with plans to restore it but, my health thinks otherwise!
It is one on about 22,000 manufactured by Cadillac from 1987 – 1993.
Its 33 years old and starts immediately on the first crank, no smoke but needs a complete tune up, wire, plugs, etc. Drivable.
It has 115,000 miles and is in fair to average condition for its age. Pearl white with a red interior. I drove it from Sarasota to Port Charlotte. I have a clean Florida title.
Many extra parts. Drivers door panel needs reassembly. Otherwise ready to drive!
Ready for restore or, part it out for big profit.
Also includes factory repair manual, factory parts manual and all owner’s manuals large container of extra parts (Radiator, starter, wiper motor, electronic controls, ignition coils, etc.)
I am going to list most of the areas of minor problems, keep in mind its age and mileage. Not to panic you, but to be honest of what I would fix for an average restore.
I am asking $1995, will consider realistic reasonable offers?
I will take $1,595 If sold by May 24,2020 but am firm, no further negotiation.
Please do not waste my time and yours if you are a tire kicker or not a serious buyer. Cash only and in hand!!! No Warranty or Guarantee, As Is, As Shown, no problems after purchase. Purchaser or purchaser’s representative must come to see vehicle. No shipping unless cash payment upfront.
Body:
Pearl white Needs fresh paint, aluminum body no rust.
Small golf ball size dent in corner of right rear quarter panel, minor repairable crack on bumper in same area. Previous owner said he backed into something.
When I had the hardtop, I dropped it on the car when I was removing it and caused two minor creases in the rear quarter panel on both sides where the mounting studs hit.
The rubber window gasket on the convertible top window needs to be replaced and the boot cover brackets need to be reinstalled. Pull down motor works fine.
Manual top, hard to open and close.
Minor 1” split on the top where the sides fold along the brackets.
Electrical:
Everything works. Center information center displays are clear and bright.
Interior:
Average condition
Passengers seat shows some wear and tear, no rips
Driver’s seat shows some wear and tear. A few minor tears, sew able (see pictures)
Drivers door panel is dissembled and ready to be reinstalled but needs driver’s side window switch.
Driver’s seat forward backward not working, all other positions work. Extra seat motors included
Armrest in poor condition, very worn REPLACEMENT INCLUDED
Carpet is in good condition, no tears, normal wear, or stains.
Overall needs some repairs a tightening up, rattles.
Mechanical:
Starts on first crank, does not smoke.
Runs a little rough, needs complete tune-up, wires, plugs etc.
Steering requires extra force when making full turns, I believe it the steering rack which is easy to install and cost about $75 – $125 on eBay, two or 3 bolts and two hoses to remove and install.
Hoses leak and should be replaced, probably original.
Some life left in tires but, need replacement soon.
Brakes work.
