Hachi-Go: 1987 Toyota Corolla SR5
The AE85/86 generation Toyota Corolla built from 1983 to 1987 was the last truly great economy car to come from the biggest auto maker in the world. No one will ever buy a Prius years from now for its driving experience or consider picking up a modified RAV4 to turn back to stock, but the 30 year old Corolla is a different animal at its core. Find this 1987 Toyota Corolla SR5 offered for $4000 in Denver, CO via craigslist. Tip from FuelTruck.

OK, this SR5 is RWD. but I would dispute the point about it being the last great japanese economy car… oh, wait, the text does limit indictment to Toyotas instead of all Japanese makers.so the following is a bit off target. but i have recently discovered the cheap fun of a 6th gen honda civic DX, having taken on my elderly uncle;s ride. with 50K on the clock and having lived on the street in NJ for its entire life. even as an automatic trans. version, this little rollerskate is a blast to drive. I do imagine people holding the 96-00 civic DXs in esteem for years to come.
I’ll see your 6th gen and raise you my ‘94 dx. That thing felt waaaaay racier than it had any right to. The last civic with the best suspension, the little non-vtec motor mustered up just enough torque to make each stab of the go pedal give you just a little tingle down there. Sold that ride for 4K in ‘02 at nearly 200k miles. For a based out dx…because civic, that’s why.
just a little blue smoke……………………..
4k for bad motor need's clutch work how about throwing in 4 matching wheels …..no deal…
Yup. Hard pass….
