The original Austin Mini had a long life (from 1959 through 2000) will mostly engineered changes to the chassis/powertrain/suspension with little to notice on the outside. The configurations of the Mini were varied and interesting, but it seems they never fitted one with a compression ignited diesel engine from the factory, which is odd given the Europeans thirst for the stuff in recent years, but somebody decided to fix this issue and make a green, but not so green, Mini. Find this 1980 Austin Mini Diesel offered for $14500 in Portland, OR via craigslist. Tip from JB1025.

1980 Austin Mini
cylinders: 4 cylinders
paint color: green
title status: clean
This restored Mini offers the fun and character of a classic Mini coupled with the more practical drive train of a 1990’s Rover Metro. I am no longer able to use this car on a regular basis so it has only been driven a few hundred miles in the last several years. This well cared for, sporty car is a super fun ride and great for commuting or driving around town.
-5-speed synchronized manual transmission
-1.5L Peugeot TUD5 diesel engine
-13″ aluminum “mini-lite” wheels
-Wooden rim steering wheel
-Wooden dash panel with glovebox
-Stereo with CD player and Ipod compatibility, speaker box under rear seat
-Hella fog lights
-USB charging ports
-Greasecar Vegetable Fuel System conversion
-Brand new tires
Originally imported from UK in 2005, the car underwent a full body restoration and re-paint, the interior headliner, door panels, carpet and seat covers were replaced along with most suspension and brake components. Less than 10,000 miles have been logged since the original restoration and has only driven during fair weather months.
This car is a blast to drive while you turn heads and make thumbs go up. Would make a great promotional car for your business or just a fun run-about.
