Gold and Brown: 1986 Toyota Camry Liftback

It is difficult to remember that there was a time when Toyota made good looking cars for the average consumer, but here it is in the flesh. Feast your eyes on the two-tone brown-gold beauty with sharp lines and a hood with a subtle bulge — that is subdued style. And, I haven’t even mentioned the sweet liftback shape – yowza! This is the same company (Toyota!) that today makes all manner of bulbous monstrosities decked out with fake wings/scoops/lights, what happened? Find this 1986 Toyota Camry Liftback offered for $6,900 buy-it-now located in Irvine, CA via eBay.

$6900 for a 34 year old rolling parallelogram? Crack pipe price… My mom had an ’85 camry. I remember being with my Dad shopping for it. I saw ‘turbo’ and the 140mph speedo (and ignored the ‘diesel’), and begged my dad to get it. He wisely ignored me. Was a great car; I delivered dominos pizza in it, and my mom would get pissed the next day. As a real estate agent, she had to explain away the pizza smell to potential buyers….
Hey, angled back! Remember when we tried to list them all? I bet we missed this one! We all forgot it existed 11 seconds after every time we saw one, like the guy in that Adam Sandler movie.
It’s not “What happened to Toyota?”. It’s what happened to the buying public’s hideous taste? Pretty much everyone nominates the Pontiac Aztek as one of the ugliest cars ever offered by a major manufacturer and yet today almost every maker offers one just as gopping. Have you seen the Hyundai Venue?!?!? Jesus. https://8848f27e89a13593c5eb-477b720225be56f215fefecf6023cd88.ssl.cf1.rackcdn.com/KMHRB8A34LU041538/138aa8e790a43f3591d31f603de176a7.jpg
And unlike the entire production run of Aztecs, this Toyota is still running!
I want to offer a completely sincere appreciative golf clap to this car (and seller). This thing is as crisp as a brand new five dollar bill. RESPEK.
