Don’t Make ‘Em Like This Anymore: 1962 Chevrolet Corvair Lakewood Wagon

If the Corvair based UltraVan we featured yesterday was a bridge too far in your automotive journey to the promised land, then perhaps you need something that is a bit more “factory”. Still different. Still built on the mass market Corvair chassis…but to work on this one you don’t need a PhD in Vintage Aviation Construction or a voodoo doll under the passenger seat. Find this 1962 Chevrolet Corvair Lakewood Wagon offered for $13,500 in Cleveland, GA via craigslist. Tip from Tony.

THE APOCALYPSE IS UPON US……..AGAIN……when a Corvair ask is 13 large……….wake me when reality quits biting.
The aluminum taillight blanking over the inner spots where the optional backup lights would go indicate that the convenience group with 2 speed wipers, with washer, day&night mirror, and glovebox light as well as backup lights were not ordered.
My grandfather got 59 Corvair cheap because it was in the dealer showroom with a big sign advertising it’s low price. It also had no radio and no heater. At the end of the year nobody had bought it so he got it for free with a truck he was buying. My grandmother loved it while it was warm but hated it in the winter. She would heat a couple of bricks in the stove to rest her feet on in the winter. After a little of that she went to the dealership and bought a Monza. I think it had every option other than AC. I think that was the last American car they ever bought.
