Detroit Diesel 2-Stroke: 1978 Ford CL9000 Cabover Pickup

If you don’t know what a Detroit Diesel 8V-92TA is…well…don’t worry, because I’m going to explain it to you. Most modern Class-8 trucks are powered by big inline-6 turbo diesel engines, but there was a time when you could get a V8. And you could get a two-stroke diesel V8. Yeah. With a turbocharger and an aftercooler the 12.1 liter V8 two-stroke diesel makes 435 horsepower at 2100 rpm and 1242 ft-lbs of torque at 1400 rpm. And it makes the most amazing sound you’ll hear from a big truck. Today’s 8V-92TA sits inside of a classic 70s Ford Cabover truck and has a small converted pickup bed for the ultimate redneck ride. Love it! Find this 1978 Ford CL9000 Cabover Pickup bidding for $6000 in Honolulu, HI via ebay.
