Deja Vu or Deja Pooh: 1992 Chevrolet Corvette Volvo 1800

If you get a feeling that you’ve seen this car, it is because you probably have. We last featured it in 2018 when the seller was trying to milk $40k from this thing…and it was featured on Oddimotive in 2015 when the seller was asking $45k. There is little doubt that the seller put something like $45k into the process of grafting a steel Volvo 1800 body on top of a C4 Corvette chassis and the price has finally gotten more reasonable…but you’ve got to wonder if it doesn’t have another 2 years of reality before a buyer is found. Find this 1992 Chevrolet Corvette Volvo 1800 offered for $25,500 in Portage, IN via craigslist. Tip from Kester.

It is a complete 1992 Corvette and a complete 1967 Volvo 1800 were the starting point for this professionally constructed custom car. The body panels of the Corvette were modified and replaced with the Volvo 1800 body parts to create a vehicle that appears to be a modern looking Volvo 1800, but with all the amenities of a modern vehicle. This car is basically a Corvette that looks very much like a custom Volvo 1800 . It is titled and licensed as a 1992 Corvette.

It is also A beautiful mix 92 Corvette and a 67 Volvo P1800. This is a totally Custom Car. Even though it looks more like a Volvo 1800 it is titled as a 1992 Corvette. It is a Corvette underneath with a Volvo body on top. Automatic transmission, air conditioning, heater, power steering, power seats, and power windows. VIN:1G1YY23P3N5114173It was promoted in the Volvo Club of America’s magazine in 2008.

Points for creativity – all good but for that roofline
Heresy perhaps, but I actually kinda like this car, which takes one of the least visually appealing ‘vettes and upgrades the look significantly with some elements from a classic design. OK, some of the details don’t work as well (i.e., roofline), but overall a good response to those who grumble that the P1800 doesn’t drive like a sports car.
The p1800 was designed Pelle Petterson under Pietro Frua when Frua was at carrozzeria Ghia, and has the signature Ghia greenhouse as seen in the Karmen Ghia which Felice Mario Boano copied from Virgil Exner’s 1953 Chrysler D’Elegance which was built by Ghia.
Got all that? Those fins seem Virgil Excessive but by some other route.
Anyway, loosing the rear quarter lights really spoils this.
The D’Elegance was in turn based on Exner’s Cunningham C-3 coupe design but that’s a digression too far.
