This next car comes as a tip from Dave in Tampa who writes: I went through a lengthy phase of buying decrepit 300d-300sd-240d Mercedes and rehabilitating them. The 240d was a W115, so three different chassis. Sadly I never owned a W124 and this one would be in my sweet spot if I was still motivated to wrench on them. I’ll read that as we still can’t find the electrical fault after replacing the alternator, something is up with the brakes/vacuum system( isn’t the AC controlled by the vacuum too?) /abs?, and there is major rust that I won’t show a picture of.
