Buyer Story: Jeff’s 1975 BMW 2002
If you emailed to buy the $2500 BMW 2002 that was featured on Saturday and the seller said it was gone, well you can thank DT reader Oakland Jeff, who saw it featured here, and without hesitation, bought it. In his own words: Thanks DT, I didn’t even know I wanted one till I saw this post. Picked it up this morning and it’s awesome!
This BMW 2002 looked too good to be true when it was posted – the price and lack of actual photo seemed questionable, but the seller had a fairly detailed description of the car that wasn’t just cribbed from somewhere else in the web, so a quick thinking enthusiast in Oakland picked it up. You may have remembered Jeff from his big gnarly pickup that was featured in April, but this looks like an excellent replacement for that vehicle if Jeff has gone through a career change from lumberjack to college professor.
More from Jeff:
It really was grandma’s car.
Garage kept and I haven’t found any rust yet. Grandma wasn’t a great
driver so the bumpers are kind of pushed in and there are some bumps and
bruises, nothing big. Drives great. Doesn’t have a ton of power but
they say this year model is all corked up with smog stuff. It starts and
runs great.
Interior is tired but mostly there and all original. It’s
never had a radio so the dash and door panels haven’t been cut.
The
one scary thing is that the title is “lost”. The guy seems ligit and he
had all the required paperwork so I’ve got all my fingers and toes
crossed.
Wish me luck!
From my own experience, misplaced titles aren’t a problem in California as long as there were no liens and it hasn’t been reported to the CHP as stolen –the new title should be issued within a few days.

Right on Oakland Jeff! Nicely bought.
Looks like a really fun car. I would pull the front bumper off and add a few rally lights in place.
Enjoy!
THIS is why I have to check my local Craigslist 15 times a day! For the rare nugget of gold strewn amongst the piles of excrement.
Nice purchase Jeff!
raise your hand if you just read this and did a local 2002/911/etc search.
Amazing. If the seller had spent even 10 minutes researching market value, they could've asked 3-4x that much. Congrats to Jeff for finding the deal and acting without hesitation.
Gotta say it.. hat tip to Kaibeezy for finding it! He is, afterall, the ultimate Bay Area carfindologist!
