Basic Pickup: 1993 Ford Ranger XLT

The Ford Ranger appeared as a compact pickup truck for the 1982 model year and it was an instant hit to Americans hungry for a small pickup. In a simply styled pickup, you have all the ability to pretend you need to haul stuff around in your daily driver without the added nonsense of a 3/4 ton frame and big horsepower, and terrible fuel economy. Today’s Ranger is an XLT extra-cab with a V6, manual gearbox, and only 77K miles on the odo. Find this 1993 Ford Ranger XLT offered for $4,300 in Bakersfield, CA via craigslist.

Well, that seems like a smoking good deal. V6 & Manual?
Fantastic!
Wow that is a lot of miles. Move over Toyota folks claiming 300k miles this biznatch is sporting 77,000k (77 million for the math challenged). “Sus” as my 8yo son would say.
This thing could have been to Mercury and halfway back by now!
But how can I dominate the road? It doesn’t have a waist line that sits above most sedans and headlights at almost eye level. without those things, I’m not even sure if the bed can haul anything.
I like the truck and the ad. The seller even shows the functioning sideways fold away rear seats. You could fit four (or in an emergency five) people in the cab, at least for short trips. The Toyota Pickup of the same period tried to fit a full-width bench seat in the rear of their xtracab; no human could occupy that space. Ford’s sideways seats make more sense.
