Gran Turismo Hero: 1998 Tommykaira ZZ

This next car comes as a tip from Cory, who writes: The solution when a Lotus Elise is too common. Never seen or heard of such a car! DT: This is curious — I’ve never seen an actual Tommykaira ZZ in the flesh, I am a huge fan of this car and know more about it from playing the classic video game Gran Turismo 3 (the ZZ was a lightweight awesome car in GT3 -GT6). Interestingly enough, there is a 2023 Road & Track article about the Tommykaira ZZ being a Gran Turismo hero, and I think the car in the article is this exact car. This TommyKaira ZZ is one of 220 the legendary Japanese tuning house built in the UK during the late ‘90s. An aluminum tub with lightweight fiberglass bodywork, the ZZ is akin to a Lotus Elise, but quite a bit more focused and hardcore. Powered by a robust 2L Nissan SR20DE engine, the car still runs its original quad Keihin racing motorcycle carburetors, a really unique feature that makes it drive and sound like nothing else!I imported this example from the Netherlands in ‘23 when it became legal. Since then it’s had a full service including refurbishing the carbs, and this fall a new battery and tires too. It’s insanely good fun on and off the track, and I’ve put about 1000 miles on it in recent months. The car presents very well inside and out, and includes both the “double bubble” track top (that bolts on to the engine cover when not in use) and the full hardtop with zip-in side windows. It also has the front trunk insert, a rare option.
Offered on a clean US title.

This would be a fun car and with the Nissan engine maintainable, but the price is too much for my wallet. Great find guys, love seeing stuff that I don’t immediately recognize.
