9th Generation: 1978 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz

Let’s take a quick trip down memory lane and explore why the DT inbox is currently flooded with examples of cheap classic Cadillacs, particularly the remarkable Eldorado personal luxury coupe. First, I made the statement that I felt like a geezer because I’m oddly attracted to a ’98 example the 12th generation Eldorado. Next, Jeff tipped us for a stunning example of the 8th generation ’67 Eldo, followed by Rock On’s submission of a ’90 Seville, and finally we found this eggplant ’85 Eldorado Biarritz from the 10th generation. Exhausting, yes? But at least we now know how we got to this 9th generation Eldorado Biarritz. Find this 1978 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz offered for $9,850 in Melborne Beach, FL via craigslist. Tip from Rock On!

In 1978, Edward C. Kennard, general manager of the Cadillac Motor Division and vice president of General Motors, offered a special edition Biarritz package in five colors and easily recognized by its unique, padded vinyl roof, wide body moldings, opera lamps, distinctive Biarritz script, special accent stripes, color coordinated wheel disks and plush interior appointments with 50/50 pillow type leather seating. It had a list price of over $13,000 when appropriately optioned. Mechanical 1978 was the last year for the large, front-wheel drive Eldorado and was truly the end of an iconic automotive era, when bigger was always better. The engine is a cast iron block and head V-8 with displacement of 425 cubic inches developing 180 smooth horsepower at 4,000 RPM backed by an automatic transmission with no known significant engine or transmission repairs needed since new and is loaded with all the power options that could be had back then. The engine compartment also maintains the original factory appearance with components only replaced or repaired as needed and the air conditioning blows cold . Interior The beautiful Desirable Biarritz package deluxe pillow seat interior of blue leather twin bucket seats is completely original including the factory plush blue carpet. The trunk area is complete with the space-saving spare, jack, tools and felt-style liners. No description here will tell you what you need to come see, but I will sum it up in one word….exquisite! It rides on the factory steel wheels with bright chrome Cadillac factory hub caps and white wall tires. Conclusion The 1978 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Coupe time capsule car here is extraordinarily well cared for and still maintains the factory showroom appearance. You simply must come see this investment grade automobile up close and in person, as the photos do not do justice to what it really looks like. Preserved Cadillacs in this condition simply do not come to the market very often. Here is your opportunity to own one of the finest 1978 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritzs in the country. FOR SALE $9850.
