5k Thorsday: Rusty Slushbox Schneewittchensarg: 1972 Volvo 1800ES

The Daily Turismo is going to continue to shout on our soapbox that the Volvo 1800ES is an underappreciated classic in the market today.  Similar condition Porsche 911, 912, Alfa GTV, & Jag E-Types trade for considerably more than a nice used Snow White’s Coffin (Schneewittchensarg) and we don’t think that price trend will last forever.  Today’s Thorsday find is a 1972 Volvo 1800ES for sale in Tacoma, WA for $5,750 buy-it-now or best offer on ebay. Tip from Scot!

We got this Gold colored classic in a tip from DT regular Scot who says “Doctordel, line 1 please!”  This is a great example of a 10-10-10 car; it looks great from 10 feet, at 10 mph or after 10 beers.  It is being sold from a dealer/flipper located in Washington who does business under the name DuroMotors on ebay and also has a interesting Volvo 122S project car for $700.

The stock 2.0 liter inline-4 cylinder B20F engine is claimed to start and run great and should put out something near its original 125 horsepower.

The real reason this shoebox is offered at such a low price is the slushbox located behind the engine, but for someone who can’t or doesn’t want to drive stick (disabled, commutes in LA traffic or participates in a lot of drive-bys…which could actually be related…) it will get the job done.

Anyone who has ever dealt with rust will tell you that if you see external rust, be prepared for 10X the amount hidden. Bring a big screwdriver (Bring A Screwdriver….that could be a awesome website…) and a magnet to the test drive and we suggest potential buyer do more poking and prodding then the average colonoscopy before putting your cash down.
