5k: Sale-ica: 1985 Toyota Celica GT Liftback, Low Miles
The 3rd generation A60 Toyota Celica was the final rear-drive chassis to use the Celica name. It added rack-and-pinion steering for the first time and the nice ones are becoming classics instead of being crushed into recycled metal and shipped back to the far east. This one, despite being slushbox equipped, caught our eye for its low miles, low price and clean condition. Find this 1985 Toyota Celica for sale in Western MA for $5,700 via craigslist.
This Celica GT 2-door liftback is powered by a 2.4 liter inline 4-cylinder engine putting out 105 horsepower and 137 ft-lbs of torque. Unfortunately this one is equipped with a 4-speed automatic, and even though it weights about 2500 lbs, it will be ox-cart slow.
The interior of this Celica looks well preserved for a 28 year old car, but well built cloth interiors will outlast the best cowhide if kept out of the sun and not driven around by Bowzer from Mario Kart. Leave your spiked turtle shells at home and the interior will last for decades.

Wow, I haven't seen one of these in forever. It looks immaculate, but $5.7K? No way. Not for what is essentially the shell of a project because there is no way someone actually wants this with an automatic. Once you start delving into a transmission swap you're bound to get a case of the "might as wells…" and next thing you know you've got a real project on your hands. Nope, not gonna do it, not for that starting price. Seriously. If it is as clean as it looks t still is only worth a small fraction of that to either drive it as-is or to be the start of something really nice. $1.7K and I'd DD it as it sits and then figure out what it needs to be really cool.
Original condition, clean exterior/interior and mileage count for a lot, and that's starting to matter for '80s relics that are becoming a rarity in any condition. I also think its worth about $2K because it's a dull base model, but there might be a market for somebody.
