5k: Notta Vette: 1983 Chevrolet Chevette S
Before you start thinking that featuring a
Chevette is like getting excited about the fastest snail, we at DT
are trying to cast the widest possible net. After all, there’s a
butt for every seat, so here’s the perfect ride for a hot shot
dot matrix printer technician, small but tough door man at
Hooters, or that pawn shop supplies traveling sales guy who just
wore out his Gremlin. Find this 1983 Chevrolet Chevette S for $7,000 in Brecksville, OH via craigslist. Tip from Kaibeezy.
The Chevette S added a cosmetic package to the base Chevette that included GTI style red pinstripes around the grill and black painted steel wheels along with some unique seats, but unfortunately it added nothing in the power/handling department.
The Chevette is powered by a 1.6 liter Isuzu 8-valve 4-banger, good for 65 horsepower, 80 ft-lbs of torque and 0-60mph in 14 seconds. The only thing good we can say about the Chevette’s performance is that it makes for some seriously entertaining ice racing, as demonstrated by the various Chevette ice racing videos on youtube.
The Chevette has the distinguished honor of being one of the lightest domestic cars for sale in 1983 – and only tips the scales at 2094 lbs. This one has the 5-speed manual gearbox and an early beta navigation system mounted on the windscreen.

Do the people in the background come with car?
Shockingly clean, but for that price I was expecting a V8.
Hell yes, I would drive this.
There better be $6,000 in the glovebox…..
That Beta Nav what an option !
A coworker at my first job had this same car with a V8 swap and it was crazy fun. I would do a much nicer install nowadays and with a small but new V8 like a 5.3 LS1 truck motor to have some fun. Wacky little rwd cars, this is a good find, rather pricey though, wow.
7,000 what? Can't be dollars.

The add's inactive, I want to offer this guy $4500, cars in great shape, I would drop in a 1.6 AEG silver top 20 valve toyota engine and enjoy, little know relationship between Toyota and Chevrolet, cars like toyota/chevy nova of the eighty's or Toyota/chevy Caviler . The bonus is I would not have to say anything to my insurance agent, swapping a 1.6 8 valve for a 1.6 20 valve, still a 1.6 but roughly double the output, maybe three times, ever hear a Chevette rev to 12K?
Yep, a Chevette like that doesn't come around very often. One for the ages. Probably went off to an industrial design museum or some reclusive European collector, but you might get lucky and spot it at the Pebble Beach Concours, in which case I would say bring cash. 😉
i'll drive it

I restored this car and sold it for 6,000. Original paint interior and 1.6 H.O.engine. During resto i tweeked the timing leaned out the carb, and had her doing over 85mph, highest the speedo would go, and 0 to 60 in 9sec. I would pass people in amazement thst it ernt soo fast. It weny to a collector in New Jersey. Thank for looking.
