5k: Lincoln Power: 1981 Volvo 240 DL V8 Swap
The Volvo wagons are regular recipients of V8 swaps from various donors, but none as famous as the Paul Newman/Dave Letterman Ford 5.0 V8 960s. Those cars were built on clean examples of the later Volvo 960 platform, but many V8lvos start out as cheap and discarded 240s, such as today’s well patina’d example. Find this 1981 Volvo 245 w/ V8 conversion for sale in Sanford, FL for $3,000 starting bid with 3 days to go.
This 245 wagon has seen some action and currently looks well used. The unexpected lump of V8 under the hood is a pleasant surprise for a car that looks like it should be covered with crazy bumper stickers and filled with dirty clothes and garbage. The donor Lincoln’s 5.0 V8 is the same fuel injected engine that powers the infamous Fox body Mustang, but in the 1988 Lincoln LSC it makes 225 horsepower and 300 ft-lbs of torque, well in excess of twice the stock engine output for this Volvo.
The auto trans and patina look make this one a candidate for a bit of lowering, gloss black steelie wheels, a full interior detail and various small mechanical jobs as needed. It would be a perfect Swedish hot rod for cruising the highways and fairgrounds in (some kind of) style. Could the ICON “Derelict” formula work for a V8olvo 245? This one’s already 75% of the way there…

it is a Ross Converse build completed in '98 at a cost of near ten grand.
what do you folks think?
I came across this a few days ago while trolling for another LeMons car; these can be sick-fast on the track when properly sorted. And durable as hell. Alas, she is too $$$ to make Lemonization her final destination. And that makes me melancholy… Because, you know, Volvo wagon and everything.
I also called owner a few days ago when 1st listed. Most gauges don't work or are inaccurate—-which I decided meant this was a half a___d job—-and so I passed.
