5k: Go Ahead: 1963 Studebaker Avanti

The Italian word Avanti literally means forward, but depending on where in Italy you are, it can be used as enter or come in, hurry-up and even go-ahead.  In the case of this 1963 Studebaker Avanti project, I would be tempted to use the term to give someone else first dibs at reassembling this car…as in, go-ahead — fix it and then I’ll consider buying it.  Find it here on eBay, currently bidding for $3,000 with 2 days to go, located in Long Island, NY.

At first glance this Avanti looks to be in sorry shape, but it has been through a rotisserie restoration and repainted by one or more previous owners.  The current seller picked it up as a project from the person who tore it apart, so a third party who puts it together will certainly find some interesting surprises.

I’d like to think of this car as a l:1 scale model car — one of those kids from Testors that has a skill scale on the side that ranges from snap-together to you’ll-need-to-car-this-schooner-from-a-square-block.  This project looks like it will be on the more difficult side, but if the body/paint is done, all you need to do is bolt stuff together.  How hard can that be?
