5k: Cheap Classic: 1972 BMW 2002
I’ve had this theory in the past few years that if you can pickup a running, driving classic that isn’t rusted out for less than $4,000, you are gonna do fine when you sell it. It doesn’t matter if it is a Borgward Isabella, SVO Mustang, VW Beetle, or BMW 2002 — there is certain market level where a car isn’t worth less than the sum of its parts…and I propose it is around $3-4k. Find this 1972 BMW 2002 automatic offered for $3,700 in Chula Vista, CA via craigslist.
Even though prices have increased dramatically in the past few years, the BMW 2002 continues to be a great way into a classic compact European sport sedan if you are on a budget. The handling is great, power is ample, and maintenance is easy for anybody with half a brain. See a better way to start driving a classic? tips@dailyturismo.com
Cool! The car is suddenly an orange tii, worth $8k, and in Hawaii when I hit the link!
Oops — you've stumbled into a naturally occruing worm hole in the craigslistverse. Link is fixed now!
It's a '72, not a '74. The ad says it, but also the bumpers and grille say it without words. 😉
Just another remnant of the space-time anomaly…fixed!!
So, if you pick up something like this, are you required to do only the minimum necessary to deslushbox it, or do you have carte blanche for that blacktop BEAMS and 6-speed swap?
Drop the Gettrag 5 speed into it……has very early eighties Cali plates……check for rust if out of state car
Those are original CA plates
