5k: Aftermarket Targa: 1973 Triumph GT6 Mk III
The Triumph GT6 was in its third revision (Mk III) in the early 1970s and the Giovanni Michelotti designed fastback was still going strong. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) the GT6 was canceled before emissions and safety regulations turned it into a joke and 1973 was the last year for the inline-6 powered fastback from Coventry. I’ve never seen a Triumph GT6 with a targa top before. Part of me says “rad” the other part says “bad”, but if it holds water and won’t fly off on the highway, it could be cool. What do you think?

A lot of similarities to Bruce Jenner and Caitlyn. It just doesn't work.
sort of like your "analogy" then?
Stan? Zat you? Where ya been?
The Kardashians and '70s BL have a lot in common in terms of general dysfunction.
@ anonymous,
The analogy is that in it's original form it really works and the conversion does not.
Imagine just how great looking this white GT6 with black contrasts would look as a "normal" hardtop fastback.
It is going to take a lot of marketing (ie Bruce Jenner) to make most people think otherwise.
I don't think I have ever seen one with a vinyl roof before. It's growing on me (in a nice way!).
Umm, yeah…no. It's quirky, I guess, but IMO the roof line is far enough from ideal as they left the factory so this vinyl isn't doing it much justice by adding visual heft. Those speaker boxes certainly limit the utility of that body style, as well. I like the spare, non-rusty front corner valences thrown in and it sounds fairy well cared-for. But there are probably examples available for equal money that don't have the two-piece toupee look going.
Too bad a good one gave its life for this….yes, like bad toupee…
I'm wondering whether the GT6 will approach that nexus of value and scarcity that'd justify welding that stupid hole back in.
I worked for a British Leyland dealer in the 70's and never saw anything like this. Saw my fair share of Austin Marina "GT's" (vinyl decal wrapped around the body, I was the one who put them on) This is fugly. Good thing those Triumph's have a frame otherwise rigidity would have been lost. Why not start with a Sptifire and change the engine from a GT 6. Now you're talking

IMO, whoever chopped the top up on this otherwise nice looking GT6 should be ashamed. Absolutely ashamed! Granted, I'm a Triumph fan. Those of you who don't care about Triumphs then won't care about the chop job.
