427ci Restoration Project: 1966 Chevrolet Corvette C2

I’m not a big fan of the whole finding cars in barns movement where people pay disproportionately large amounts of money to have the pleasure of pumping more money into restoring an old heap of parts…but sometimes you find a car that might be worth the cost of restoration because the asking price is so far below the going rate of decent version. The subject car might have been stored in the barn, but the reasons for ownership has less to do with the emotional aspects This next car fits into that paradigm, but will depend on the condition of the frame that sits under the fiberglass outer panels. Find this 1966 Chevrolet Corvette 427 4-Speed offered for $16,500 in San Diego, CA via craigslist.

A big block, complete if dirty Corvette for $16,500? That’s low enough I have to wonder if it’s an April Fools joke.
Yeah this is way cheap for this vintage. If I thought I could get my retirement account stock sold and then get there before this before it was sold…but I’m sure it would be gone before I put in a sell order.
It’s gotta be. Map in the CL ad is north suburbs of Kansas City. Zero other info. Who would want all those calls from wackos?
As a San Diego resident my alarm bells are going off on this one. The area code is not San Diego (doesn’t mean the seller’s cell phone number isn’t from somewhere else… ) and the background is not very So Cal. Map is wrong… Yea, this is not right. I am suspicious this could be an ad to generate retaliatory phone calls to somebody unrelated to the car being offered.
This car has shown up on various enthusiast sites including Barn Finds and has reliably been shown to be a scam.
